EBTCS Established to set Professional Standards

Established in October 1996, the primary goal of The European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons (EBTCS) is to create a common high standard for the quality of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in all European countries.  The European Board was set up to establish a standard for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery that can be recognised across Europe, and that should allow mutual recognition between European Countries. Examination Is Critical to EBTCS Certification

While the European Board examination is an important vehicle to establish such a standard in European Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, the intention is not to set a level of excellence so high that it is only attainable by a minority. Rather, the purpose is to recognise and award the certificate of the Board to recently appointed surgeons who attain a level of knowledge and competence that can be recognised as appropriate for independent practice throughout Europe. Prepare for Your Examination

Both the European School for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (ESCTS) organized by the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS) and the European School of Thoracic Surgery organized by the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) provide tuition on the curriculum necessary to pass the Board Examination. These Schools serves as a complement to the intellectual teaching given in the surgical department. It has the ambition to give comprehensive overviews of subjects. The tuition is arranged in one-week-courses in Bergamo, Italy (EACTS) and in Antalya, Turkey (theoretical) and Elancourt, France (hands on) (ESTS).
